We have known Sherry since we were students together at Harding College in the late 70’s. She is a true selfless servant of God deserving of all that the Christian family can do for her. I can’t imagine living with the burdens she faces every day and yet she is always so positive. She has sent monthly newsletters for many years and each one is headed with scripture and ends with a positive comment of faith.

Recently my husband and I, who work in the mission field, had a car break down. God’s wonderful people took care of this problem by donating $15,000 dollars in less than two weeks. I know God’s family has incredible resources. Can’t we all work together to help this family who have given their lives to the mission field for 23 years and never been paid for it?

The Adams are a great family and surely do need the financial help. They host a teen gathering every month during the school year that our teens really enjoy, and they host the Dickinson camp out every August, which is attended by youth from across the state. From what I have been told they are one of 2 families that started the congregation in Dickinson, and they do most everything from preaching and teaching, reaching out to the college kids, to cleaning the building. It is a very small congregation, but they work very hard. Our congregation was blessed to be able to give the Adams $5000 this year to help with the medical costs, but that is just a drop in the bucket of what they owe.

  1. I had written this back in 1989 when a friend’s young daughter was diagnosed with cancer. I was wondering what in the world do I say to this mom? The young lady is now in her 20’s and fully recovered, thanks be to God.

    Dear Lord,

Oh, What a strong Shepherd you are,
    Your love is ever sure,
In your arms I am secure,
    Oh, What a strong shepherd
    Holds my heart.

    When my day are black,
    Your promises are sprinkled
    Like stars across my sky.
You promise peace for the day,
    light for the way,
    Your presence ever near,
Your power greater than my fear.
    And hope — always hope!
You promise your will is best for me
And you guide my steps to walk in that will.
You guard my heart and mind.
    When questions won’t subside,
    I cry out with confidence,
    Thou Art Faithful!

I am your child — I can understand that love.

    Your promises…
    Like stars across my sky.
    Through my darkness,
I know that you are light,
    Forever shining bright.
    Your love filters
    Through the haze,
To remind me that my days
    Are truly in your hands.

Oh, what a strong Shepherd you are,
    Your love is ever sure,
In your arms I am secure,
    Oh, what a strong Shepherd
    Holds my heart.

  2. I love to write poems too. This one written by Sanders Burrus is TOPS on my list of the ones I’ve read. Praises for such God confidence!
